Independent fuel stations have reassured the public they have no plans to close as a result of the Coronavirus lockdown, writes Simon Hacker.
With private car movements dramatically reduced, the Petrol Retailers Association is reporting that evaporating sales at the pumps may trigger closure for independent retailers.
But the warning is not echoed by the availability of a fill-up in the Wotton area.
Bear Street Garage recently revised its operating hours for Monday to Friday from 7am until 2pm, Saturday 8am until 2pm and Sunday 8am until 12 noon – and has no plans to change its crucial service for front-line workers.
Meanwhile Charfield Service Station tells the Wotton Times: “We’re open 7.30am until 6.30pm on weekdays and Saturday 8am until 4pm. We’re closed as usual on Sundays. “We are not thinking of closing any time soon,” a spokesman said, adding that wholesale supplies of fuel are easily available.
