Lions receive special funding to support community Coronavirus response

Wotton-under-Edge Lions have received a share of £100,000 from the Lions Clubs Foundation of the British Isles.

Lions Clubs across the country have benefited from a special fund launched to support local communities during the Covid-19 crisis.

Wotton Lions will utilise the grant to support Wotton Mutual Area Aid who are making such a difference to our community at this critical time.

Lions President Patrick Comer said: “This is a significant sum of money that we are putting to good use straight away.

“This Coronavirus pandemic is hurting lots of local people in lots of different ways – just because we are all social distancing doesn’t stop us from caring – we are doing what we can, and this cash injection will help us do more.”

Shaenna Loughnane, who cofounded Wotton Mutual Area Aid with Chris Sweet, said: “Support for our newly-formed community aid group has been fantastic.

“We will ensure this money goes to help those most vulnerable in our town and surrounding villages at this difficult time.”
